VE Day – 75 a moment to give thanks for peace.

Friday the 8th May is the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Whilst our plans have been changed due to the Covid-19 pandemic there will still be a short service of thanksgiving at 7.30pm. In 1945 a service of thanksgiving took place after the Church Bells had rung out for peace in Henfield. While our bells will be silent this Friday we are following the same pattern. All are welcome to join our live streamed service on Facebook.

The order of service we will use is shown below.

All Sunday and Mid-Week Services and activities suspended until further notice.

Following advice from the Government and the Church of England in in relation to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak we have suspended all public acts of worship together with all our midweek activities, until further notice. With regret we are also now required to keep our churches closed and locked during the day.

The clergy and many others remain committed to offer emotional and spiritual support during the challenging days ahead, and we will share in the practical support that is being offered by the amazing generosity of so many others within the local community. Prayer is at the heart of our faith and we will pray for all who sick, for those who are isolated, and those who are anxious and the afraid. We will pray too for our government, the NHS and for the many workers and volunteers who go beyond the call of duty to ensure that life can continue as normally as it can in this unprecedented period in our life as as a global community.

Whilst we are unable to gather for worship together, services will be streamed live on facebook at 10am on Sunday mornings and at other times as announced. Other resources for prayer and worship will be published in due course, and a simple service of Morning Prayer which we will use on some Sundays, is published below.

You might like to use this prayer over the next few weeks and months.

Lord Jesus Christ,
you taught us to love our neighbour,
and to care for those in need
as if we were caring for you.
In this time of anxiety, give us strength
to comfort the fearful, to tend the sick,
and to assure the isolated
of our love, and your love,
for your name’s sake.
