Service of Commemoration for HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Friday 16.04.21 at 6pm

At the news of the death of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip on Friday, the people of this country, the Commonwealth realms and nations, and the Church have joined Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family in a week of mourning for his loss. St.Peter’s Henfield has remained open for prayer for each day and many people have indeed come to pray and to light a candle. The week will draw to a close this Friday at 6.00pm with a Special service of commemoration for Prince Philip. It will be a fitting end to the week, and a way of preparing our hearts for the Duke’s funeral on Saturday. Due to the continuing Covid-19 restrictions, numbers unfortunately will be limited, however if you would like to attend the service please contact the Church office for your name to be added to the list on 01273 495532 or by email The service will also be live-streamed at

Remembering HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

The news that HRH Prince Philip has died has saddened many people and we give thanks to God for his life, his dedicated service to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, and perhaps most of all his loyalty and unfailing support and dedication to Her Majesty The Queen for 73 years. St.Peter’s Church, Henfield will remain open from 9am until 5 pm to allow people to come in to remember Prince Philip in prayer and to light a candle. At all services on Sunday 10th April, prayers will be said and there will be a minutes silence. At the 10.00am and 11.15am services (11.15am service is at Woodmancote) the National Anthem will be sung by a soloist. Arrangements are yet to be agreed for a commemorative service on behalf of the whole community, although it is expected that this will be held at 6pm the evening before the day of his funeral. Once details are finalised for the service – which will be live-streamed – they will be made available on this website and via social media channels.

Sadly due to Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to have a book of condolence in Church. However do feel free to add your message to the Church of England’s online book of condolence here.

Remember, O Lord,
your servant Philip,
who has gone before us with the sign of faith
and now rests in the sleep of peace.
According to your promises,
grant to him and to all who rest in Christ,
refreshment, light and peace;
through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Most merciful God,
whose wisdom is beyond our understanding,
surround the Queen and the Royal Family with your love,
that they may not be overwhelmed by their loss,
but have confidence in your goodness,
and strength to meet the days to come.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
