Today marked the beginning of a new term for in2mission, our children’s Sunday club, as well as the beginning of a new course to prepare three of our young people to be admitted to Holy Communion on Easter Day. To mark this, and the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord, we gathered at the font at the beginning of the Celebrate! Service and gave thanks for our baptisms.

Rev’d Peter blessed the waters and thoroughly enjoyed soaking our three candidates before we left for in2mission.

We then learned that in our church we baptise people in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And that people can be baptised when they are babies, or children, or teenagers, or grow ups, or when they are very, very old.

Karen poured out the water and reminded us of the waters of creation, the water Jesus was baptised in and the waters that we had all been baptised in. The Paschal candle was lit and we learnt that Jesus said, ‘I am the Light…’ Then Karen told us how the Holy Spirit comes to us when we need comfort and power. That we cannot see it, it is invisible but it is still there. Then it was the our turn. First, we marked the baby with the sign of the cross.

And of course we all had to try our hand at baptising the baby.

Then it was time to make a baptismal shell for Jesus to remember his baptism in the River Jordan.

In2mission will meet again on 26th January during the 10.30am Celebrate! Service when all children aged 3 and over will be welcome to join us.

In the meantime, join us next Sunday at 10.30am for Celebrate! Xplore.
