After he was baptised, Jesus went into the desert for forty days and forty nights.

After he was baptised, Jesus went into the desert for forty days and forty nights.

Jesus was hungry and thirsty. One day he heard the voice of the devil, ‘If you are hungry, tell these stones to become bread.’ Jesus said, ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ Then the devil took Jesus to the highest point of the  Temple in Jerusalem. The devil said,  ‘If you are really the Son of God, jump and see if God sends his angels to catch you in case you hit the stones below?’ Jesus answered, ‘No. Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’ Then, the Devil showed Jesus  all the kingdoms of the world. He said, ‘This will all be yours, if you will bow down and worship me.’ Jesus said, ‘No. Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’ Then the Devil went away.

Jesus came back across the River Jordan and began to teach the people in parables and heal the sick.

Jesus spent time with people whom nobody else wanted to touch. People were changed by meeting him. Some even became well. Finally, Jesus knew what he had to do, so he turned his face towards Jerusalem for the very last time.
