Origins as far back as 770AD, and mentioned in the Domesday Book… St. Peter’s is steeped in history.

A previous incumbent, Henry de Candole, who was vicar here in the 1940s, and then later Bishop of Knaresborough, wrote a Story of Henfield in  1947, that catalogues not only some of the history of the village, but also of St. Peter’s.

A History of St Peter’s Church Henfield was produced in 1987 by Barbara Oliver  –  a pdf of the text is available by clicking on the following link.                                                    Normal, and LARGE PRINT copies available. The text has recently been updated for the 1250th anniversary of Christianity in Henfield (See below)  and includes details of the re-ordering of St Peter’s in 2007-2008. Copies  cost £3 and are available from the Church office or are available in the porch.
