As we get to Shrove Tuesday (DO come and join us for pancakes at Henfield’s Corpus Christi hall on Tuesday at 5pm with Ecumenical style!), and Ash Wednesday, we enter Lent for this year.

If you are looking for some good resources for Lent, here are some (we have ‘borrowed’ some from David Keen – Lenternet and others):

Christian Aid has quite a slew of resources and ideas including Count your Blessings & their twitter stream, and TEAR Fund are supporting a Carbon Fast.

There’s also the Church of England’s most digital Lent course, Exploring God’s Mercy, with the Bishop of Sheffield and others.

Here at Henfield we are doing Frugal Lunches on Wednesdays. Soup & bread & a ‘thought’. We will be using Bishop Stephen Cotterell’s The Nail as our basis. Come and drop in any Wednesday lunchtime at St Peter’s Henfield.

The Choir of Chichester Cathedral is to visit St. Peter’s, Henfield; in the Hurst Deanery on Sunday 12 February 2012, at 4:30pm

Cathedral Choir Visit

The entire musical establishment of Chichester Cathedral is to move from its home base to undertake a long-planned visit to St. Peter’s Church, Henfield. The Choir of 16 choristers and 6 Lay Vicars will sing Evensong under the direction of Sarah Baldock, Organist and Master of the Choristers. With her will come the The Dean, the Very Rev’d Nicholas Frayling, and The Revd Canon David Nason (Priest Vicar). The school’s headmaster, Tim Cannell, and the Cathedral’s Assistant Organist Tim Ravalde and the Organ Scholar Alex Goodwin will also be present.

Many from the Hurst Deanery and the wider Mid-Sussex area will remember Sarah Baldock’s impressive organ recital in October 2008 and will wish now to take the opportunity to hear the choir that she has honed so brilliantly over the last four years.

It is a rare privilege for a village community to be able to hear the choir of the diocesan cathedral as it leads a service of worship in a local setting. Everyone is warmly invited to be present on this special occasion. We hope you will join us in St. Peter’s to give an enthusiastic & sincere welcome to the distinguished musicians of Chichester Cathedral.

God, may I welcome this new year without fear or regret,
Secure in the certainty of your promises.
May I live in anticipation of its beauty;
And be prepared to embrace its challenges.
May I look for your love in every moment;
And listen for your voice in every sound.
May I see your image in every stranger;
And exalt in your glory expressed in all your creation.
May I learn to live in the place of trust;
Remembering always that the future is in your hands.

After 3½ years with us at Henfield, our curate Angela Martin is to take up her new post.

The Rev'd Angela Martin

Angela is to be the new Assistant Rector in the parish of Worth on the eastern side of Crawley, working with The Rev’d Canon Anthony Ball. The parish covers the neighbourhoods of Worth, Poundhill and Maidenbower, and is close to the main railway station at Three Bridges.

Angel writes:…

I am very pleased to announce that I will be joining Revd Canon Anthony Ball, Rector of Worth Parish as Assistant Rector serving in Worth, Pound Hill and Maidenbower, Crawley.

Worth is the largest of four parishes in the Crawley area with some 33,000 souls and rising! So plenty of work to be getting on with and lots of people to talk to! We will be living at St Barnabas Vicarage in Pound Hill and we are all looking forward to making our new home there. My last Sunday in the Benefice will be the 18th of March 2012 and I will be licensed to Worth in April on the 17th at 7.30pm. It would be lovely to see you there.

The family and I have thoroughly enjoyed our time here in the Benefice and we will miss you all very much. I’d like to take this opportunity to say a BIG thank you to each and every one of you for your support and kindness over the last three and a half years. I will always hold you in my prayers.

Revd Angela, Gareth, Hywie, Rhodri & Elliot X x x

Whilst we will be very sorry to lose her, we knew Angela’s time with us would be finite, and she would only be with us whilst she was training, and that she would move on to a new parish at some point. We will miss her; her smile, her laugh, and so much more beside – she and Gareth, and Hywie, Rhodri and Elliot have been an important part of Henfield life. We wish them our prayers and our blessings as they prepare to move.

Angela’s last day in the Henfield benefice will be Mothering Sunday, 18 March 2012, and her licensing in the new parish will be on 17 April 2012.

Henfield has not had a Parish Weekend for many years, and we are delighted to have managed to book not only The Oasts as our venue, but also to have Deacon Ish & his wife Irene Smale with us as our leaders for the weekend – both the venue and the speakers are highly acclaimed!

We hope this time of eating and drinking, of talking and worshiping together over the weekend will help us to get to know one another better, and deepen both our friendships and our faith.
