Parish Breakfast – Takeoff

After the success of our last Parish Breakfast, our next one will be on Saturday 20 October at 8:30am at the White Hart in Henfield High Street.

Canon Jonathan Baldwin, Chaplain at Gatwick Airport

Our guest speaker this time will be the Chaplain from Gatwick Airport, Canon Jonathan Baldwin. There will be plenty of opportunity to hear his high-flying stories, and ask down to earth questions of this sky pilot.

Do come and join us! Book a place by calling Louise on 01273 495532, or emailing the office.

Kate – our new Reader

On Saturday, Kate Bailey was received and licensed as a new Reader in the diocese.

Kate was one of 11 new Readers licensed by The Rt. Rev’d Mark Sowerby, Bishop of Horsham, at Chichester Cathedral on Saturday 22 September. Kate will be working across the Henfield Benefice, and it is great to welcome her to the team.

Kate is pictured with her husband John, who is also a Reader, and the clergy of the Henfield Benefice.

Wedding anniversary celebrations

A Henfield couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last week.

Fred and Pam Cook have been Henfield residents since the 1970s, when Freddie came to be headmaster of St. Peter’s School, and oversaw the move to the new school premises.

Freddie has aso been a Reader in the Henfield benefice, and his preaching and leading has been invaluable and much appreciated over the years.

Many family, including the newest youngest great-grandchild; and friends from over the years, joined Pamela and Fred for a fantastic celebratory tea. 70 years of marriage is a huge achievement, and several of the family gave thanks to God for  the years of marriage being celebrated.

Confirmation is the opportunity for each one of us to claim the Christian faith for ourselves, and to confirm promises made on our behalf at our baptisms.

As part of a confirmation service, the bishop lays hands on each candidate, asking God to confirm them with his Holy Spirit.

We have a new Confirmation class, for adults and teens, on Sunday afternoons, starting on Sunday 2 September at 4:45pm, beginning with looking at The Fish, and The Cross. This year we are expecting about 4-5 adults, and perhaps 10-12 teens who may be interested.

Sometimes those who have been confirmed for a few years like the opportunity to do a ‘refresher’ – so if you are one of those, do come and join the Sunday afternoon sessions too – you’d be most welcome.

4 of our sessions will take place before the Confirmation service, and a further 3 following it. The date of the Confirmation Service is the evening of Wednesday 26 September, venue to be confirmed.

Further details from the Benefice office, on 01273 495532, or email, or speak to one of the clergy.
