Service of remembrance for the Battle of Jutland and the Battle of the Somme.

Revd Paul will be leading a service of remembrance on Thursday the 30th June at 8pm at the Henfield War Memorial, Cagefoot Lane, to commemorate the sacrifice of those men of Henfield who died at the Battle of Jutland which took place between 31st May and 1st June 1916 and the Battle of the Somme which was fought between the 1st July and the 18th November 1916. All are welcome to attend.

Join us in celebrating the Queen’s 90th Birthday on Sunday 12th June at St. Peter’s Henfield.

Queen Elizabeth II visits a new maternity ward at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.

 

This weekend see Henfield celebrate Gardens & Arts when St.Peter’s will be open for teas and other special events. On Sunday 12th  June there will be a special celebratory service to mark the Queens 90th birthday which will be held in the Vicarage Garden (in a marquee) at 10.00am.  After the service there will be a BBQ at Midday  drinks and burgers/sausages  will be available  at £1.50 and drinks at £1.00. Profits will be donated to the Henfield Haven who provide services for older people within the community.

Inside St Peter’s Church, Henfield, throughout June there will also be a special exhibition celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Over the weekend of 11/12 June during Henfield’s Festival of Gardens & Arts, visitors to the Queen’s 90th Birthday Exhibition can listen to recordings of our very own nonagenarian, Reg Saunders, with his fascinating memories of how life used to be in Henfield when he was young.

Choral Evensong at St. Peter’s Woodmancote. Sunday 29th May

For those who enjoy the sung service of Evensong from the Book of Common Prayer come to St.Peter’s, Woodmancote on Sunday 29th May. Tea and cake will be available from 4pm and the service starts at 5.30pm. This year marks the 460th anniversary of the deaths of Thomas Harland and John Oswald, residents of Woodmancote who were martyred in 1556 at Lewes during the Marian persecutions. To mark this part of our history prayers will be said at the martyrs memorial in the church yard. Do come and share in this beautiful and poetic act of worship on a late spring evening.

Garden Party and Fun Dog Show at St Giles’ Shermanbury, 1.30pm, Saturday 21st May

The Friends of St Giles’ Shermanbury,  have organised a Garden Party and Fun Dog Show  at St Giles’, Shermanbury, on Saturday the 21st May at 1.30pm.  Entrance is FREE

Teas will be available all afternoon, the dog show starts at 2.00pm,  all sizes and types of dogs, (with owners)  are welcome to take part and rosettes  will be awarded to the winners!

Tractor Rides and other events , included “story telling” for young children and a guided tour of the church will take place and the afternoon will conclude with a short animal blessing service at 5.00pm.  All animals from Horses to Hamsters are welcome!
