LENT

As we get to Shrove Tuesday (DO come and join us for pancakes at Henfield’s Corpus Christi hall on Tuesday at 5pm with Ecumenical style!), and Ash Wednesday, we enter Lent for this year.

If you are looking for some good resources for Lent, here are some (we have ‘borrowed’ some from David Keen – Lenternet and others):

Christian Aid has quite a slew of resources and ideas including Count your Blessings & their twitter stream, and TEAR Fund are supporting a Carbon Fast.

There’s also the Church of England’s most digital Lent course, Exploring God’s Mercy, with the Bishop of Sheffield and others.

The Nail - Stephen Cotterell

The Nail - Stephen Cotterell

Here at Henfield we are doing Frugal Lunches on Wednesdays. Soup & bread & a ‘thought’. We will be using Bishop Stephen Cotterell’s The Nail as our basis. Come and drop in any Wednesday lunchtime at St Peter’s Henfield.

Adrian Chatfield of the Simeon Centre has some useful ideas for individuals to try – especially if you use the internet a lot.

Have a blessed Lent!

Henfield’s New Curate

We are delighted to announce that the bishop has appointed a new curate to the Henfield Benefice, starting at the end of June 2012.

Peter & Helen O'Connell

Peter & Helen O'Connell

Peter O’Connell, and wife Helen with Caleb and Elizabeth (and a third child due in early October), will be moving to be with us from their current home in Midhurst.

Peter was a civil servant before training for the ministry, and Helen is a gardener, one of whose first jobs a number of years ago was near Henfield; her grandparents also lived in the village for a time.

Peter writes: “I am delighted to be coming to join you next year.  We all think that Henfield is a place that we can feel at home as a family.”

(Henfield’s current training curate, The Rev’d  Angela Martin, will have completed her 4 years of curacy with us by then, and she has already been exploring possible appointments. Angela & the family will be much missed – but we always knew she would be moving on.)
